Michelle Deanne Schultz
art consultant, strategist & curator
Michelle Deanne Schultz is an art consultant, strategist & curator who worked in public and private institutions in Canada, the US and the UK for over 15 years. Through MDS Art Consulting Inc. she focuses on supporting artists through strategy, project management, mentorship, and administrative support; and working with institutions & business to develop collections, strategies, policies and procedures that are artist centred, forward thinking and value driven.
She studied History of Art, Design and Visual Culture at the University of Alberta before moving to London, UK to complete an MA in Contemporary Art from the Sotheby’s Institute of Art in 2010. In 2020, she earned an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
She worked with various institutions in London including Whitechapel Gallery, Ibraaz, Frieze Art Fair and Somerset House, and was a founding member of GALERIE8, an East London project and exhibition space. She spent three years in Los Angeles, CA where she was Director of emerging contemporary art gallery GUSFORD and was Director of dc3 Art Projects and Bookshop in Edmonton, AB from 2015-18.
She was the Executive Director of Latitude 53, one of Canada’s oldest artist-run centres, from 2018-23, and a member of the Edmonton Arts Council's Public Art Committee since 2016. In 2019 she curated Bend at the Embassy of Canada Prince Takamado Gallery in Tokyo, Japan and was a Juror for the Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Prize from 2019-22.
